There are plenty of jobs in IT sector!! but very less job ready engineers

If we go and talk to any small or big IT companies, one of the biggest challenge they are facing is shortage of affordable graduate engineers. Most of these companies are ready to take a graduate engineer if he is skilful and affordable OR if he is not skilful but has attitude to learn and stay longer if he is provided skills.

Most of the time we hear that there are many people looking for job. But that was not correct. Many companies and many times in a year are desperately looking for candidates who are skilled. And many a times they look for not great skills but basic skills. It is the industry which is hungry to give jobs to candidate and not the candidate hungry for doing a job.

There are many companies that are coming to campus drives and many more are ready to come provided there is a chance that they can get skilled or sticky manpower.

Whenever an IT company or for that matter any engineering company goes to campuses or advertises for vacancies, there are many people who wants to apply for the job.

But if we ask any graduate engineer they say it is very difficult to get a job and there is fierce competition. That is the perception you get when 500 people attend a campus drive and only a dozen or less selected at the end of the day.

Some of the reasons why this is happening is

Uneven Job Market :

There are three different types of companies that recruit fresh engineering graduates

1. Core Engineering Product Development Firms
These are very high end companies that have huge cash reserves and typically come from other countries. They pay salaries that range anything above 6 Lakhs Per Annum and may go upto 24 Lakhs. These companies typically hire from prestigious A class Engineering colleges like IITs and NITs and sometimes from other colleges too.

2. Large well Known Services Firms
There many of these large IT services firms like Wipro, Infosys, TCS kind of firms which have reasonably good salaries in the range of 1.8 Lakh Per Annum to 4.8 Lakh Per Annum. They hire in bulk depending on their season.

3. Small and Medium Firms
These firms used to hire in small numbers but because of the high number of small and medium businesses they used to absorb significant number of graduates. But these companies pay Nil to 2.4 Lakhs per annum. Since they are small and medium business they only pay after you acquire the skill and not to train you for skill. The salaries in these companies typically rises only based on the skill and results that you bring.

There are more jobs in the category three and they never expect you to have solid hard skills but they definitely expect good attitude to work as well as stickiness to stay in the job so that they can get their return on investment for making you learn the skill.

The quality of the candidate they look for is basic attitude towards education and work and never the skills that they are looking for. However a good understanding of any technology is an add on. However they do not want to become a training center that pays the candidate. Henceforth they stopped taking fresh graduates if they do not give a commitment. I think nowadays even companies like Infosys and Wipro insists on commitment through bond.

If a fresh engineering graduate and their parents understand this skill gap, probably more and more engineering graduates can enter into the IT job market.

The only way an engineering graduate can get a job is either to learn the hard skills and soft skills the hard way and enter the market.

Simpleskills provide 6 months intensive full time job ready skills for graduates who are aiming to get their first job. Simpleskills programs are delivered in an actual IT delivery environment and not like a traditional training institute.
