I think it is not true that freshers are struggling in India. But Industry is struggling due to lack of working attitude in Freshers.
Last 2 months we have extensively done campus pool drives in Telengana and Andhra Pradesh. We have selected 170 people for final selection process. So among the 170, we could only select 7 people that too without the happy smile that we have recruited good people. It is just thinking that there might be some potential in these candidates we have to give offer letters.
Most of the graduates coming out of these colleges are “Educated Illiterates”. The word “Educated Illiterates” is an oxymoron. A literate person in a village reads the news paper everyday. He reads it to know about his interest in politics, wheather and what is happening outside his village.
But most of the fresh graduates are coming out of the colleges without even reading any book other than the text books or answers to the most frequently coming questions in the exams. The brains of the fresh graduates does not work if they do not know test pattern. So they have never learned anything for the sake of education or learning. As long as a fresh graduate does not know how to read a new book on technology and learn new technology, they only fit for operational jobs like BPOs.
IT Industry in India has grown beyond the early days of “Year 2000” problem where any body can fit in the job. Current IT industry is working for the real solutions of the world companies and needs brains who can think and brains who wants to “learn to work” and “work to learn”. And today’s IT industry does not require fresh graduates who needs training to do the job rather than they need resources who read to learn and need only mentoring.
As long as the fresh graduates do not read books to learn new technologies and technologies that are not taught in curriculum, they may not get a chance to join a company. Because Technology is changing every month and every quarter so there is no training infrastructure in training anyone in these new technologies. By the time any company creates a training system in any new technology, the technology might either evolved to a new one or completely outdated.
So there are tons and tons of jobs available with the IT Industry and the Fresh Graduates should generated an interest in the software technologies and learn them on their own and go to the interview.
The companies are really really desperate to recruit people but unfortunately they do not recruit if they know they have to teach the fresh graduates reading books.
The best thing to get a job for a fresh graduate is to pick a few books on a technology and master a technology in terms of concepts as well as writing a few hundred programs in that area. Then companies will be desperate to take them.
